For how long does a derogtory/charge off item remain on a credit report compared to a bankruptcy?

Not sure which would be the better route to go considering both woud make one inelligible to qualify for any credit or financing.

    Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act (Federal law) charge offs show for 7-years from the date of first delinquency which works out to 7-years and 180-days.

    Bankruptcy’s (chapter 7) shows for 10-years from the date of discharge.

    10 years for public records(judgments & bankruptcies)
